Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Vibrant: Ground turmeric is sunshine yellow when diluted in milk. (Fresh turmeric is surprisingly orange!)
  • Flavorful: Every ingredient in this golden latte is packed with flavor. Their combination makes for an incredible flavor.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Both turmeric and ginger are anti-inflammatory, so drink up!

What is a turmeric latte?

The original turmeric latte is from India and is called haldi doodh. It is also called golden milk or golden latte.

Even though it is called a latte, it technically isn’t one since it doesn’t contain coffee. It is made with turmeric (fresh or ground), milk, ginger, ground black pepper, and a sweetener.

Nutrition For Mental Health

Turmeric is rich in antioxidants, including curcumin. It is a good source of iron. Turmeric also contains small amounts of magnesium, calcium, potassium, and vitamins C and B6.

Here at Raepublic, we love seeing how your food can positively impact your mood! A meta-analysis found that adding curcumin to standard care may improve anxiety and depressive symptoms in individuals with depression. However, more studies are needed.

Ingredients + Notes

Six simple ingredients bring this turmeric latte to life.

A top-down view of turmeric latte ingredients, including almond milk, black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and maple syrup, arranged beautifully on a textured surface.
  • Almond Milk: Unsweetened almond milk is the perfect base for this drink.
  • Turmeric: Ground turmeric makes for a quick and easy recipe.
  • Ginger: Ground ginger adds a spicy, warm flavor.
  • Cinnamon: What doesn’t taste better with cinnamon? Ceylon cinnamon or the more common cassia cinnamon works just as well.
  • Black Pepper: Ground black pepper can help your body absorb turmeric’s powerful compounds.
  • Maple Syrup: My go-to sweetener since it is a liquid and dissolves perfectly in a latte.

Substitutions + Variations

This recipe is tasty as is. However, if you need to make adjustments, these are my recommendations.

  • Turmeric: This recipe uses ground turmeric. However, if you prefer, fresh turmeric works just as well.
  • Milk: If you have a nut sensitivity or aren’t a fan of almond milk, then oat milk, cashew, coconut, or soy milk all work well.
  • Sweetener: I’m a fan of maple syrup for multiple reasons. However, if you aren’t a fan or don’t have it on hand, I recommend agave nectar or regular cane sugar. Alternatively, stevia is a good sugar-free option.

How To Make A Turmeric Latte

  1. Whisk together milk, turmeric, ginger, pepper, and cinnamon in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer.

Would you like to save this?

Servings Ideas

Sometimes, you just need a cozy drink. Other times, you want it alongside a more substantial dish. Here are some tasty pairings to consider.

Storage Tips

I recommend enjoying this drink fresh. However, if you have any leftovers, then I recommend storing them in a glass bottle or jar. Enjoy within a couple of days for the best taste.
