Nutrition For Mental Wellness

When I was in grad school for nutrition, I was drawn to research how food can impact your mood.

Avocados are not just about great taste; they’re a powerhouse of nutrients. Packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, avocados also offer a great source of fiber and essential vitamins like vitamins K, C, E, B2, B3, B5, B6, Potassium, Folate, and Copper. They are also a good source of magnesium and manganese.

Avocados contain essential nutrients that are linked to improved mental health. For example, avocados are rich in vitamin K. Increased vitamin K intake is associated with reduced depressive symptoms.

Ingredients + Notes

This easy guacamole without tomatoes recipe uses fresh, plant-based ingredients.

All of the ingredients for 5 minute guacamole recipe on a tile counter labeled.
  • Avocado: The main ingredient is creamy avocados. The perfect avocado can transform your guacamole from good to the best guacamole you’ve ever had. To make sure you get perfectly ripe avocados, they should be ever so slightly soft. If you pop the stem nub off of an avocado, it should have a dull green-brown color underneath. If it’s bright green, then it probably isn’t ripe.
  • Cilantro: Fresh cilantro adds a distinct, aromatic flavor. If you are part of the 11% of the population that can’t stand cilantro, you can simply omit it from this recipe.

A full list of ingredients with exact amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

Recipe Variations

I don’t recommend making a ton of substitutions, but here are some you can make if you need to.

  • Citrus: Substitute lemon juice with fresh lime juice for a different tang.
  • Onion: Swap red onion with white onion or yellow onion for varying flavors.
  • Jalapeño: Add a kick with minced jalapeño.
  • Tomatoes: This recipe for homemade guacamole without lime is tomato-free. However, if you wish, you could certainly add some.
  • Cilantro: Some people don’t care for cilantro. If that is the case, then just omit it.

Servings Ideas

Here are my go-to serving tips for this easy guacamole without tomatoes!

Storage Tips

Place leftover no tomato guacamole in an airtight glass container such as a Le Parfait jar. Use a spoon to compress the guacamole, removing any air pockets. Add about half an inch of water to the top. (This will help keep it fresh.) Secure the lid and store it in the fridge for 2-3 days for maximum freshness.

When you are ready to enjoy it, drain the water off the top, give it a stir, and enjoy!
