One serving of chia seeds has 138 calories, 4.7g of protein, 8.7g of fat, 11.9g of carbohydrates, and 9.8g of fiber. It is an excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), antioxidants, magnesium, and phosphorus. Chia seeds are a good source of calcium, iron, zinc, thiamin, and niacin.

A 10-year large longitudinal study including women showed that higher ALA intake and lower linoleic acid (LA) reduced the risk of depression.
